Raed Gerges, President of the Sport Hall of Fame – Lebanon, visited the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and met with its President Jamie Dinsmore.
The meeting included a two-hour discussion and tour of the facility during which Dinsmore shared his team’s expertise on preserving the history of hockey that carries the spirit of a nation’s sport. In this regard he stressed on the “important and detailed work that needs to be done through each and every step, from acquiring the original items, the studies done to authenticate them, to storing, displaying, rotating and several other meticulous caring actions.”
Scott Veber, Creative Director and Curatorial Associate, explained the importance and relevance of various sections in the museum. In addition to renowned trophies and game-worn equipment displayed, he highlighted the considerable space dedicated to Honoured Members and Legends during their rookie days under the topic “Road to the Top”. Another special section stands out in the museum, displaying the players and the history of Indigenous People in Hockey, to name few.
Raed Gerges said of this visit: “As a team at the Sport Hall of Fame – Lebanon, we strive to achieve the goals we have set to preserve Lebanon’s sporting heritage, which helps strengthen a sense of national identity and belonging. Since we are working on establishing a museum and periodically selecting honorees, it is only natural to draw on the expertise of the world’s leading Hall of Fame and their curators to learn from their proven methods, which are grounded in years of experience in this field.”
Gerges thanked the President of Hockey Hall of Fame and the team for the productive visit and for sharing their expertise that will undoubtedly assist in the association’s next phase of work.
