Dubai Chamber of Commerce, one of the three chambers operating under the umbrella of Dubai Chambers, hosted a forum today at its headquarters on enhancing the sustainability of food resources. The event attracted the participation of 92 representatives from private sector companies and marked the launch of the chamber’s ‘Sustainability 365’ initiative, which runs from 5 – 31 October.
The forum highlighted the importance of diversifying supply sources as a key pillar in strengthening food security. It also explored the role of local production, technology, logistics, and circular economy practices in improving resource efficiency, reducing food loss and waste, and building a more resilient and sustainable food ecosystem that meets the needs of the future.
Maha Al Gergawi, Vice President of Business Advocacy at Dubai Chambers, said: “Dubai’s pivotal position supports the development of a more efficient, and sustainable food ecosystem. Collaboration between the public and private sectors is becoming increasingly important in expanding sourcing options, supporting local production, and harnessing technology and circular economy solutions to manage resources more effectively. We are committed to enabling companies to learn from practical experiences and build partnerships that strengthen their readiness to adopt sustainable business practices across the food production and trade sectors.”
The forum featured a series of sessions exploring Dubai’s efforts to build a more resilient and sustainable food ecosystem, as well as the importance of collaboration between government entities and the private sector in supporting food security. The sessions showcased practical models for reducing food waste, transforming food loss into valuable resources, and adopting scalable solutions that improve food management within facilities and enhance resource efficiency across local food systems.
The forum also featured a panel discussion with representatives from the food trading, distribution, logistics, and retail sectors, which explored the challenges and opportunities associated with food supply and management. Participants exchanged insights on measures companies can implement across procurement, storage, transportation, and operational management to strengthen operational readiness and support business continuity.
The event highlighted leading models in responsible business leadership by showcasing the contributions of companies that have received the Dubai Chamber of Commerce Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Label. The sessions explored how these companies are integrating sustainability into their strategies and operations to enhance their ability to create long-term value for businesses, society, and the environment.
In addition to the forum, the ‘Sustainability 365’ programme, organised by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce’s Centre for Responsible Business, features a series of events, seminars, workshops, and specialised training programmes. These activities bring together members of the business community, experts, and relevant stakeholders to exchange knowledge and explore practical solutions.
The programme aims to equip companies with the knowledge and tools required to develop responsible corporate practices and translate sustainability principles into practical actions that support long-term business growth.
