The CMA CGM BARRACUDA docked at the CMA Beirut Terminal, marking the success of a humanitarian operation coordinated by the CMA CGM Foundation in partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).
Shipped from Mersin, Turkey, this 600-tonnes cargo, distributed across 39 40 feet containers, consists of food rations and essential supplies, as part of the CMA CGM Foundation’s efforts to address the urgent food needs of affected populations in Lebanon.
This operation contributes to WFP’s ongoing emergency response, enabling the organization to scale up food assistance to displaced and crisis-affected families. The food assistance transported through this shipment has been made possible with the support of the EU Humanitarian Aid, which is supporting preparedness and response efforts in Lebanon.
Conducted as part of broader humanitarian mobilization efforts, this shipment highlights the importance of strong partnerships between humanitarian and logistics actors to ensure a timely and efficient response.
As part of its “Containers of Hope” program, the CMA CGM Foundation provided the maritime transport of this cargo free of charge from the port of Mersin to the port of Beirut, leveraging the CMA CGM Group’s logistics capabilities to support humanitarian operations.
Containers of Hope: Humanitarian expertise in times of crisis
In response to natural disasters or conflicts, the CMA CGM Foundation mobilizes the Group’s full range of industrial resources (containers, vessels, aircraft, warehouses, trucks) to respond quickly to the needs of affected populations. Through its “Containers of Hope” program, the Foundation has enabled the free maritime transport of 120,000 tonnes of humanitarian aid to 106 countries since 2012.
This operation highlights the complementarity between humanitarian and logistics actors, as well as the importance of close coordination to ensure a rapid, efficient, and needs-based response on the ground.
The CMA CGM Foundation committed to supporting displaced populations in Lebanon
The CMA CGM Foundation continues its mobilization alongside public authorities and its partners, such as the World Food Programme, to support affected populations and actively contribute to the humanitarian response in Lebanon.
In parallel to this operation, the Foundation has carried out additional humanitarian shipments to support Lebanon, including the transport of 60 tonnes of aid from France via CMA CGM AIR CARGO, and the shipment of over 1,000 tonnes of aid from Egypt by sea. These operations were conducted separately as part of the Foundation’s broader humanitarian support efforts.
