On the occasion of World Cancer Day, the LAU Medical Center – Rizk Hospital organized a heartfelt event on February 4, bringing together patients, survivors, caregivers, medical professionals, and artists in a powerful celebration of resilience, compassion, and collective healing.
The event opened <a href="https://menainsights.com/dubai-founders-hq-partners-with-antler-to-launch-flagship-programmes-to-upskill-founders-and-unlock-new-pipeline-of-venture-backed-startups/”>with a welcome address by Dr. Hady Ghanem, who emphasized the medical center’s patient-centered approach to cancer care and healing, and the importance of standing alongside patients throughout every stage of their journey.
This was followed by deeply moving testimonials from cancer patients and survivors, who courageously shared their personal experiences, from diagnosis and treatment to recovery. Their stories highlighted not only the challenges they faced, but also the critical role played by the multidisciplinary medical team at LAU Medical Center – Rizk Hospital, whose continuous support, empathy, compassion and expertise helped them navigate one of the most difficult chapters of their lives.
A panel discussion and roundtable then brought these voices together in an open and honest dialogue, shedding light on the emotional, psychological, and medical dimensions of cancer care. The discussion featured participating patients alongside Ms. Lea Baaklini – Head Nurse, and Dr. Tony Sawma – Psychologist, and was moderated by Dr. Christina Khater – Oncologist, who guided the conversation with sensitivity and insight, reinforcing the importance of holistic care in oncology. The event was attended by the Executive Vice President for Health Services, Dr. Zeina Khouri-Stevens, who reflected on the experience, saying: “This event beautifully reflected who we are from start to finish; medical excellence meets compassion. By combining science, art, and empathy, we created a unique approach to cancer awareness and highlighted the power of community in healthcare.”
The event continued with a series of art therapy experiences, including theatrical acts and music sessions, reflecting the hospital’s commitment to treating not only the disease, but the person as a whole. Throughout the event, artists engaged in live painting, creating artworks inspired by themes of hope, strength, and renewal. These paintings will be displayed in the chemotherapy ward, transforming the space into one of warmth and inspiration.
Through this initiative, the LAU Medical Center – Rizk Hospital reaffirmed its dedication to comprehensive cancer care, one that integrates medical excellence with emotional support, creativity, and community, honoring every patient’s journey and reminding all that no one faces cancer alone.
