Season 11 Recap
In a thrilling final-lap showdown, DS Penske’s Maximilian Günther won the first ever Jeddah E-Prix race on Friday evening. The German driver seized his opportunity at the last chicane, overtaking Nissan’s Oliver Rowland right before the chequered flag. Taylor Barnard, who then drove for NEOM McLaren, took the final podium position in Round 3.
On Saturday, Barnard broke a new record becoming the youngest ever Formula E pole sitter, aged 20 years and 259 days, after qualifying in P1 for Round 4. But he lost that leading position during the race as Rowland capitalised on smart energy management and a well-timed ATTACK MODE strategy to secure a dominant win ahead of Barnard in P2, and Jake Hughes who then raced for Maserati in P3.
Season 11’s Jeddah E-Prix also saw the debut of the PIT BOOST feature in the all-electric championship. This system requires drivers to complete a mandatory pitstop mid-race to gain a 10% energy increase (3.85kWh) via a 30-second, 600kW ultra-fast energy boost. PIT BOOST t has since been incorporated into all subsequent double-header race weekends.
Off track, international singer-songwriter, Akon, and Grammy Award-winning rapper, Lil Baby, wowed race goers with their headline performances on the fan stage.
But they weren’t the only famous faces who attended the race with British boxing star Chris Eubank Jr., ex-Manchester city and current Al-Ahli footballer, Riyad Mahrez, and Georgina Rodríguez, social media personality, model, entrepreneur and partner to Portuguese football player Cristiano Ronaldo, being just some of the big names spotted at last year’s event.
